Eppaggelia in Classical Greek means promise. The human race needs to understand that the source of promise is God himself, in his grace; any promised gift we have is received. Our promised eternal life does not from us originally.
Blessed is the man who endures temptation for whom he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. (James 1:12)
And this is the promise that He has promised us - eternal life (l John 2:25)
In hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began. (Titus 1:2)
