Elpis is a Greek word that has been translated in English version of the Bible as "Hope". With faith, hope and love as the foundation of Christianity, hope (Elpis) is the virtue for receiving the grace of God and eternal life.
Who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us. (ll Corinthians 1:10)
