The greek term most commonly used in the New Testament for Gifts is Charisma, which particularly appears fourteen times in Paul's letters, two times in pastoral documents and once in 1 Peter. It literally means God's grace in action. According to the context in Romans, the opposite of Charisma is Opsonia (Wage). The generous gifts in particular our salvation, from the God of all grace are given without any reference to how we have treated him.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Roman 6:23)
Who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us. You also helping together in prayer for us, that thanks may be given by many people on our behalf for the gift granted to us through many. (ll Corinthians 1:10-12)
